Window Tinting or Cosy

Window Tinting or Cosy 24/7? Which one is best for your house

Window tinting is the process of adding a thin layer of film to your windows to control and stop an excessive amount of solar radiation including ultraviolet rays from penetrating your windows. Ultraviolet radiation can cause skin-cancer, eye-injuries, actinic keratosis and damage to the immune system. Window tinting is arguably a necessity, not only to avoid UV rays but also the heat that comes with it.

There are different types of  window tinting to achieve the different objectives. Although dark and reflective tinting will help with privacy; they will also starve your home of natural light. To achieve ‘privacy’, at least 85% natural light will be reflected. This may affect your sleep quality or moods. Apartments have strict façade or window appearance rules prohibiting the use of dark, coloured or reflective tinting to prevent the facade of the apartment looking like a patchwork of different colours and shades. This also prevents the neighbouring properties from the ‘reflection’ of the properties with reflective tinting.

Depressingly dark in Winter

Dark tint films achieves heat block by substantially blocking natural light. Dark window tinting will make your home dark and gloomy – permanently! This is especially the case in winter where natural light is so valuable. Dark tint films are manufactured using dye-pigments. These pigments tend to degrade over time with UV bleaching resulting in these dark tint films becoming cloudy. Substantial lighting will need to be deployed to replace the loss of natural light in winter. When homes are sold, dark and reflective tints are usually removed to present the home in as much natural light as possible to improve presentation and sale value.

No privacy at night

Reflective or privacy window tinting only provides privacy from external prying eyes during the day. This function is reversed at night when you cannot see out of your reflective windows. Truly, the expression of ‘living in a fish tank’ is not an exaggeration when you have highly reflective window tinting. You will not be able to enjoy pleasant night views from your home with reflective tinting.

Blocks natural light even when it is desirable

Natural light is one of the most valuable features of a building, especially homes. Modern homes have large windows.  Apartments are mandated to have substantial windows to meet minimal natural light design provisions. It is counter-productive to tint your windows with dark films to block natural light given the importance and value of natural light. NanoShield substantially blocks the non-visible infrared and UV radiation with minimal loss of natural light.

Dark Tinting Compromises Views

With dark and reflective window tinting, you won’t be able to enjoy the natural views from your windows. They will always be marred with a dark layer of film. This can become even more pronounced, if you are accustomed to the natural views.
